What to Expect

Prices depend on where you are seen and whether you are a new patient or a follow up. Generally, osteopath appointments range from £50-70

Case History Taking

Your first appointment lasts one hour so there is enough time to listen to your reason for visiting, ask questions about your lifestyle and your general health. This is to make sure that you are safe when I treat you.

The information you provide is confidential and is recorded in your case notes.

If you take regular medications or have any imaging reports it can be helpful to bring these along to your first appointment so a copy can be made.

Examination

Examination involves dressing down to what you are comfortable in. I will provide towels and only ask to examine what is necessary.

You will be asked to make simple movements to observe your posture and mobility.

Joints, muscles, ligaments and any other structures related to your complaint are examined for health using a highly developed sense of touch called palpation.

Special tests can also be used to help assess structural integrity of joints and test specific tissues that might be contributing to your pain.

Treatment

After the examination I will explain to the best of my knowledge what is causing your presenting problem and will discuss a treatment plan with you.

Treatment can involve massage, joint movement and manipulation. Other techniques might be suitable for you, for example, cranial-sacral therapy or visceral treatment.

Your consent is always gained before any treatment takes place and before any treatment decisions, such as whether spinal manipulation would be helpful to you.

Lifestyle advice and exercise prescription is tailored to you and your diagnosis.
